Choctaw Nation Signs Compact With State

Choctaw

The Choctaw Nation is very pleased to announce that the path toward Choctaws in Oklahoma obtaining free hunting and fishing licenses has begun. The Tribal Council and the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission have taken the steps of giving their approval of a compact between the Choctaw Nation and the state to offer annual hunting and fishing licenses at no cost to Choctaw tribal members. The next step toward finalizing this agreement will be acquiring signatures from Governor Mary Fallin and Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Chief Gary Batton on the document.

Under this proposed compact Choctaw members living in the state of Oklahoma between the ages of 16 and 64 will receive an annual hunting and fishing combination license. Also included are an annual trapping license; a bobcat, raccoon, river otter, gray and red fox license; a state waterfowl license; up to four turkey licenses; up to six deer licenses; and a land access permit for Three Rivers and Honobia Creek Wildlife Management Areas. Choctaw members under the age of 16 living in the state of Oklahoma receive an annual hunting and fishing license, one deer license and one turkey license.
