Coast Guard Responds to Fort Smith AR

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a report of a partially submerged unclassified construction vessel at mile marker 300 on the Arkansas River near Fort Smith, Arkansas, Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River received a report at approximately 4:10 p.m. of the sinking construction vessel.

The vessel has a reported 200 gallons of diesel on board.

Reportedly some say there is a light sheen around the vessel.

An oil spill response organization from Little Rock is reported to be en route to the scene.

Members from Marine Safety Detachment Fort Smith, Arkansas, are on scene to investigate the situation.
