Cowboys Lose Opener Plus High School Football

Paris – Area football teams were on the field this weekend. On Friday night the Paris Wildcats win in dramatic fashion over Sulphur Springs 36-35. North Lamar dominates Greenville 40-20. Rivercrest destroys Trenton 63-2. Chisum falls in a defensive battle to Bells 7-3. Prairiland is shut out by Winnsboro 30-0. Cooper falls to Callisburg 42-8. Honey Grove loses a battle with Blue Ridge 19-14. Detroit goes down 40-30 to Quinlan Boles and Clarksville loses to Big Sandy 56-15.

Mount Pleasant – Area football teams were in on the field this weekend. On Friday night the Hughes Springs Mustangs dominate Paul Pewitt 52-12. Daingerfield picks up their first win of the season, 28-12 over New Boston. Gilmer crushes Liberty Christian 61-19 and Rivercrest blows out Trenton 63-2. Mt. Pleasant falls to Sherman 42-14. Pittsburg is throttled by Henderson 71-28. Mt. Vernon loses to Hooks 25-13. High school football resumes with week 4 on Friday night.

Sulphur Springs – Area football teams were on the field this weekend. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats fall in the final minute to Paris 36-35. Winnsboro shuts out Prairiland 30-0. Commerce beats Edgewood in a shootout 45-38. Cumby remains unbeaten with a 26-6 win over Wolfe City. Lone Oak falls to Caddo Mills 29-13. Cooper loses to Callisburg 42-8. Como-Pickton falls short against Hawkins 46-40 and Emory Rains loses to Farmersville 47-22. High school football resumes with week 4 on Friday night.

Yesterday afternoon the Dallas Cowboys played their first game of the 2016 season, in a 20-19 loss to the New York Giants. Rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott scored the long touchdown for the Cowboys, while Dan Bailey knocked through four field goals. The Cowboys are on the road this coming Sunday when they visit Washington.

The Texas Rangers win two of three to the LA Angels, but fall yesterday 3-2. Despite the loss, Colby Lewis had a solid outing in his return from the DL. Lewis went five and a third innings pitched, giving up three runs. The Rangers are 85-59 on the season and lead the AL West by 9.5 games over Houston and Seattle. Texas will take on the Astros tonight in Houston. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:10.

And at the U.S. Open, 3rd ranked Sam Wawrinka wins over top ranked Novak Djokovic in four sets. Angelique Kerber wins on the women’s side.
