Dixie World Series Starts Today Plus Choo and Fielder to DL

Paris – The Paris Dixie 15 and Under team begins their Dixie World Series tournament today with group play in Ozark, Alabama when they take on Butler, Alabama today at 4 p.m. They’ll return to the field tomorrow against Parkwood, Tennessee at 8 a.m. 21 teams are partaking in the tournament. The Paris Pre-Majors begin their Dixie World Series next week in Guntersville, Alabama.

Mount Pleasant – We are less than a month away from the first scrimmages of the high school football season and just over a month away from the regular season. Notable week 1 match ups on August 26th include the Mt. Pleasant Tigers on the road against North Forney. Pittsburg will travel to Crandall. Daingerfield will host Hughes Springs. Paul Pewitt will be at Sabine. Mt. Vernon will be at Caddo Mills and the Gilmer Buckeyes open the season against Liberty Eylau.

Sulphur Springs – We are less than a month away from the first scrimmages of the high school football season and just over a month away from the regular season. Notable week 1 match ups will include the Sulphur Springs Wildcats will host Sherman. Cooper are at Farmersville. Mt. Vernon is on the road against Caddo Mills. Commerce opens at Lone Oak. And Como Pickton is at Grand Saline.

The Texas Rangers will be without Designated Hitter Prince Fielder and Left Fielder Shin-Soo Choo after both were put on the disabled list prior to yesterday’s game. Prince, who’s struggled all season long, could have season ending surgery on his neck. Choo was experiencing lower back discomfort.

Meanwhile, without the pair of veterans, the Rangers get swept by the Angels after falling last night 7-4. Ian Desmond hit his team leading 18th homer of the season in the loss. The Rangers are now 55-41 on the season and lead the AL West by 3.5 games over Houston. Texas has the day off today before returning to action tomorrow when they travel to Kansas City to face the Royals.

Former Dallas Mavericks first round selection Roddy Beaubois will reportedly turn down the Mavs offer to bring him back to the team. Rather than signing a three year, partially guaranteed contract with Dallas, Roddy B. is expected to sign with a professional team in Spain.

The countdown to Dallas Cowboys training camp continues. In seven days, the Cowboys will arrive in Oxnard, California. Camp will officially begin on July 30th
