High School Basketball and Soccer Plus Pudge Hall of Famer

Paris – District high school hoops is on the air tomorrow night. The North Lamar Panthers tip off with the Pittsburg Pirates on MIX 107.7. The Pantherette’s are off to a hot 3-1 start in district play at they face the Lady Pirates. The 16th ranked Paris Wildcats welcome the Atlanta Rabbits to Wildcat Gym on 101.9 KBUS. The Lady Cats host the Lady Rabbits. Girls games tip off at 6pm. The boys at 7:30. In other area action, the Prairiland Patriots travel to take on Winnsboro. And ranked number 4 out of class 2A the Clarksville Tigers travel to McLeod, where the two unbeaten teams in district 15-2A look to make a statement.

Mount Pleasant – The Mt. Pleasant Tiger soccer team trek down to Abe Martin Stadium to begin the Lufkin Tournament. Their opening match will be against New Caney this evening at 6pm.

The state ranked Chapel Hill Red Devil and Lady Devil basketball teams are back home tomorrow night as they welcome in Cooper. At 5-2, the 14th ranked Lady Devils tip off with the Dogette’s at 6pm. The 5-0, 24th ranked Chapel Hill boys will follow. Mt. Vernon will also be at home to host Como-Pickton. The Lady Tigers are 6-0 and ranked 7th in the state. The Mt. Vernon boys are 4-1. The Pittsburg Pirates and Lady Pirates will be on the road visiting North Lamar.

Sulphur Springs – Area high school basketball teams continue their march to the post season. At 7-0 and ranked 20th in class 5A, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats look to stay at the top district 16-5A when they travel to Hallsville. The Sulphur Springs boys are in 2nd place at 5-1. They’ll host the Bobcats at Wildcat Gym. Both games tip off at 7:30. Mt. Vernon will also be at home to host Como-Pickton. The Lady Tigers are 6-0 and ranked 7th in the state. The Mt. Vernon boys are 4-1. Saltillo is 2-0 early in district play. They’ll tip off with Roxton tonight at 7:30 as well.

The Dallas Mavericks and Stars are in action tonight. The Mavs will be in Miami to take on Hassan Whiteside and the Heat. The Mavs are in last place in the Southwest Division while Miami is in last place in the Southeast standings. Tip off is at 6:30.

The Stars will be in New York against the Islanders. Dallas has 46 points on the season, while the Islanders have an Eastern Conference low 42 points. Puck drop is at 6.

Yesterday afternoon Major League Baseball announced their newest Hall of Fame inductees. Texas Rangers catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez will be heading to Cooperstown, becoming only the 2nd catcher in MLB history, along with Johnny Bench, to be inducted in his first appearance on the ballot. Rodriguez spent 13 of his 21 major league seasons with the Rangers, was a 14x All-Star, 13x Gold Glover and won a World Series title in 2003 with the then Florida Marlins.
