High School Basketball Playoffs Plus Kim Nabs American Gold Medal

 

Last night the girls played the bi-district round of the basketball playoffs while the boys get ready to finish up the regular season tonight.
Paris – The Honey Grove Lady Warriors advance after a 46-22 win over Quinlan Boles. The Rivercrest Lady Rebels take down Gary, 51-37. The North Lamar Pantherettes drop a defensive battle at the hands of Canton to end their season, 37-19, while Prairiland is edged out falling to Queen City, 60-54. Tonight the Paris Wildcats host Pittsburg at Wildcat Gym. North Lamar will bring in Liberty Eylau as the Panthers look for a playoff spot. And the Prairiland Patriots can clean up a big mess in the 13-3A standings with a win over Winnsboro on the road.
Mount Pleasant – The Chapel Hill Lady Devils were dominant in a 70-27 win to eliminate Paul Pewitt. The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers flex their muscles in a 64-29 victory over Redwater. The Rivercrest Lady Rebels advance after defeating Gary, 51-37, while the Mt Pleasant Lady Tigers season comes to an end at the hands of Lucas Lovejoy, 49-27. Tonight the Mt Pleasant Tigers host Greenville in the regular season finale at home. The Chapel Hill Red Devils have the 13-3A No. 2 seed locked up as they host the Cooper Bulldogs. District Champ, Mt Vernon will host Como-Pickton. Pittsburg visits Paris while Daingerfield hosts Queen City.
Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats cruise in the opening round, 52-30 over Mesquite Poteet. The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers dominate Redwater, 64-29. Miller Grove takes down Bloomburg, 40-32. Cumby sees their season end at the hands of Blue Ridge, 71-36 and Yantis falls to Ladonia 70-49. Tonight the Campbell Lady Indians take on Celeste. The Sulphur Springs boys prepare for playoff action as they wrap up the regular season at home against Hallsville. Mt Vernon will host Como-Pickton. Campbell will host Martins Mill. Yantis goes to Fruitvale, while Sulphur Bluff hosts a rivalry game against the Saltillo Lions.
The Dallas Mavericks look to snap out of a funk tonight when they host the Sacramento Kings at the American Airline Center. The Mavs are 18-39 on the season, while Sacramento has struggled just as much at 17-38. Tip-off tonight at the A-A-C is 7:30.
Major League Baseball is officially back this week. Pitchers and catcher will begin reporting tomorrow for several teams across the league. The pitchers and catchers for the Texas Rangers will report on Thursday, February 15. The first team workouts for the Rangers will be held next week on the 20th.
And our Pyeongchang Medal Counter shows Norway leading the way with nine total medals, while Germany remains in the lead with four gold. Team USA is gaining ground with six medals thus far. The United States added their third gold yesterday evening when 17-year-old, Chloe Kim, became the youngest female ever to win a snowboarding event as she dominates the halfpipe with a score of 98.25. Eight more medals are scheduled to be rewarded throughout the day today.
