Area high school basketball teams continue their hunt for the postseason this evening.
Paris – The North Lamar Panthers look to make it back to back wins tonight when they visit Pittsburg. Last night the Panthers beat Atlanta, 46-35 while the North Lamar girls fell to the Lady Rabbits, 44-31. The Paris Wildcats will now test themselves against the Rabbits on the road tonight. The Prairiland Patriots bring in the Winnsboro Raiders to Patriot Gym.
Mount Pleasant – The Mt Pleasant Tigers make the trip to visit the Greenville Lions. The Tigers are 4-1 in district play as the Lady Tigers host the Lady Lions at Willie Williams Gym. The Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils hope to stay dominant when they visit the Cooper Bulldogs and Dogettes. The Mt Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers go to Como Pickton. The Rivercrest Rebels are headed to Maud while the Saltillo Lions are at home against Roxton.
Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats look to stay dominant when they take on Hallsville tonight. The boys will be on the road while the Sulphur Springs girls play host at Wildcat Gym. Both games tip off at 7:30. The Saltillo Lions are at home against Roxton. The Mt Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers will be headed to Como-Pickton. North Hopkins will be in Quinlan to take on Boles while the Cooper Bulldogs bring in the Chapel Hill Red Devils.
Last night the Dallas Stars collect a point but fall in a shootout to the Columbus Blue Jackets, 2-1. The lone Stars goal came from Alexander Radulov to start the third period, but it’d be all the offense Dallas could come up with. Despite the loss, the Stars maintain their hold on the top Wildcard spot in the Western Conference with 56 points on the season.
The Dallas Mavericks are back on the floor tomorrow when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers. Dallas still sports one of the NBA’s worst records at 15-30 on the season. Tip-off tonight in Portland is set for 9:00 pm.
And the NFL Conference Championships kick off on Sunday to decide who will square off in the Super Bowl. In the early game for the AFC Championship, the Jacksonville Jaguars look to upset the New England Patriots in Foxboro. Tom Brady has been listed on the injury report this week with an injury on his throwing hand. Brady was at walkthroughs but did not practice yesterday. The significance of the injury is unknown. Kickoff between the Jags and Patriots is at 2:05 Sunday afternoon. The late game for the NFC title will feature the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Minnesota Vikings. The anticipated defensive battle is set to kick off at 5:40.
