High School Football Two-a-Days Begin Plus Rangers Split with Twins

 

This morning, for the first time in 2017, area high school football teams will strap on the helmets to begin two-a-days. The first few days of practice will require only helmets, shirt, and shorts before padding up later in the week.  Teams will be playing in their first scrimmage on August 18. Week one, to start the season, is Thursday, August 31 and Friday, September 1.
The Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins split a four game series over the weekend with the Rangers dropping the finale, 5-6. Texas jumped out on top after a five run 1st inning. Adrian Beltre launched a three-run blast, but the bats would fall silent the rest of the afternoon. The Rangers remain 4.5 games out in the American League wild-card race and 18 games back of the AL West leading Houston Astros. The Rangers have the day off today before traveling to New York for interleague play against the Mets.
Former Ranger’s Yu Darvish made his first start as an L-A Dodgers Friday night. Darvish picked up the win going seven innings of shut out baseball and striking out 10. Willie Calhoun, who the Dodgers exchanged for Darvish, has hit four homers in five games in Round Rock.
After picking up a preseason victory in the annual Hall of Fame game, the Dallas Cowboys stayed in Canton, Ohio, to witness Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones induction into the hall. Being enshrined as a contributor, Jones was inducted along side running backs, LaDainian Tomlinson and Terrell Davis. Defensive End, Jason Taylor. Safety, Kenny Easley. The kicker, Morton Anderson, and Quarterback, Kurt Warner. The Cowboys play their second preseason game on Saturday against the L.A. Rams.
