High School Softball and Mavs Win in Today’s Local Sports

Paris – Last night in high school the baseball the Prairiland Patriots open up district play with a 4-3 win over New Boston. District play continues for some and will begin for others in high school softball. In a Lamar County showdown the Prairiland Lady Patriots will take on rival Chisum Lady Mustangs. The game will be played at Prairiland high school with first pitch at 2pm. The North Lamar Pantherette’s begin district competition at home against the Liberty Eylau Lady Leopards. The game can be heard live on MIX 107.7. Pre-game begins at 5:45. First pitch is at 6.

Mount Pleasant – Last night in high school softball the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers continue early success in district play with a 7-2 win over rival Texas High. Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers softball picks back up tonight when they visit Greenville. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers will continue district play this evening as well. They’ll host Linden Kildare. The Purple Lady Tigers are 10-10 on the season and 0-1 in district play. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30.

Meanwhile, the Chapel Hill Red Devils will begin district competition when they host the Paul Pewitt Brahmas. First pitch on the Chapel Hill campus is set for 7pm. Both Pittsburg Pirate baseball and Lady Pirate softball will be off until Friday

Sulphur Springs – In high school baseball and softball local teams will be in district competition. Last night the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats dominate Marshall 14-3. Sulphur Springs softball will continue district play at home against the Texas High Lady Tigers this evening. First pitch from the circle is set for 6pm. The Sulphur Springs baseball team opens up district play on the road against rival Texas High. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.

The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers continue district play this evening as well. They’ll host Linden Kildare. The Purple Lady Tigers are 10-10 on the season and 0-1 in district play. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30.

Last night in the NBA the Dallas Mavericks snap a five game losing streak with a 107-96 win over the Charlotte Hornets. With the win the Mavs get over the .500 hump at 34-33, but remain tied with Houston for 7th in the western conference. Tomorrow, the Mavs will take on the Eastern Conference leader, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tip off tomorrow is at 6pm.

Tonight in NHL the Dallas Stars will host the LA Kings at the AAC. The Kings, who’re coming off a big win over the Chicago Blackhawks last night, have 87 points on the season, while the Stars lead the West with 91 points. Puck drop tonight is set for 3pm.

In the NFL the Dallas Cowboys have scheduled a visit with Free Agent defensive end Chris Long.

And the NCAA tournament begins today with play in games. Florida Gulf Coast plays Fairleigh Dickinson for the right to the 16 seed in the East. Vanderbilt will play Wichita State at 8:10pm for the 11 seed in the South.
