High School Volleyball Plus Cowboys Look for Kicker

Area High School Volleyball teams are coming down the stretch of the season.
Paris – The Paris Lady Cats look to clinch a district title this evening at home against Liberty Eylau. The North Lamar Pantherettes are also at home against Atlanta and the Roxton Lady Lions will go to Blue Ridge. In Golf, North Lamar’s Jackson Nottingham was crowned champion at the Melissa High Golf Invitational. Nottingham shot 74 in the evening. The Panthers finished fourth overall.
Mount Pleasant – In an I-30 rivalry, the Mt Pleasant Lady Tigers will head west for a match with the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats. The Pittsburg Lady Pirates head the opposite direction as they visit Pleasant Grove in Texarkana and the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas will be visiting the Daingerfield Lady Tigers.
Sulphur Springs – In an I-30 rivalry the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will wrap up the regular season tonight before beginning a playoff run next week. This evening they’ll welcome in the Mt Pleasant Lady Tigers. The North Hopkins Lady Panthers will make the trip to Quinlan against Boles. The Miller Grove Lady Hornets will visit Yantis and the Cumby Lady Trojans go to Fruitvale.
The Dallas Mavericks are still searching for their first win of the season after falling to Golden State last night, 133-103. Wesley Matthews leads the Mavs with 19 points and three steals on the night. Dallas drops to 0-4 on the season and will be back in search of that elusive first win tomorrow against Memphis at the American Airline Center.
The Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett says kicker Dan Bailey will miss a couple of weeks with a groin injury. Bailey suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sundays 40-10 win over San Francisco while warming up. The Cowboys will bring in a handful of kickers today in search of a fill-in, including Sam Irwin-Hill, who was with the Cowboys in the pre-season, veteran Mike Nugent, and former Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo. Bailey is in his seventh year out of Oklahoma State and is seven of seven on Field Goal attempts this season.
And the Dallas Stars look to stay hot on the ice when they travel to Colorado to face the Avalanche. The Stars are 5-3-0 on the season with ten points and rank in the top 10 on the young season in goals against, Power Play Percentage, and Penalty Kill Percentage. Wing, Jamie Benn, leads the team eight points. Puck drop tonight between the Stars and Avalanche is set for 8:00 pm.
