HS Football Playoffs Plus Cowboys to Battle Chargers on Turkey Day

 

It’s the Area Round of the Texas High School Football Playoffs this weekend with the winner advancing to the Regional Finals.
On Friday the Daingerfield Tigers look to upset top-ranked defending state champion Gunter at Royse City. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm on KLAKE 97.7. Mt Vernon Tigers take on Kemp at Mesquite’s Hanby Stadium at 2:00 pm on STAR 95.9. The Hughes Springs Mustangs are up against Grandview at Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium at 2:30 on STAR 96.9. The Rivercrest Rebels are in action on Saturday night against Lovelady at Athens at 7:30 on KOYN 93.9.  Across the area, on Friday night the Gilmer Buckeyes face Caddo Mills in Sulphur Springs at 7:00. Cumby is up against Grapeland at Mabank at 7:30 and the Commerce Tigers plays Sunnyvale at City Bank Stadium in Forney at 7:30.
The Dallas Stars notch a solid win over Montreal, 3-1. Devin Shore, Jason Spezza and Tyler Seguin netted the goals for Dallas. The Stars pick up their 23rd points of the season and have a quick turnaround tonight in Colorado against the Avalanche at 8:00 pm.
The Dallas Cowboys play their annual Thanksgiving Day game tomorrow evening. The 5-5 Cowboys host the 4-6 Chargers as the ‘boys look for players returning from injury to help end a two-game skid. Tackle Tyron Smith, Kicker Dan Bailey, and Linebacker Anthony Hitchens are expected to play. Linebacker Sean Lee is expected to be ruled out.  Kickoff tomorrow is at 3:30.
And the new College Football Playoff Rankings were released yesterday. The Alabama Crimson Tide hang on to the top spot. Undefeated Miami moves up to No. 2. Clemson slips to No. 3 and Oklahoma is 4th. Wisconsin and Georgia are on the bubble at 5 & 6, respectively.
