Miguel Cabrera, a junior goalkeeper on the LETU men’s soccer team, was named the American Southwest Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Cabrera had a season-high 14 saves in the 0-0 tie with Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Oct. 24. Cabrera organized the defensive attack throughout the contest in the constant downpour for the shutout and tie. It is his second weekly honor in 2015 and the third of his career.
Next, Cabrera and LETU will close out the regular season with a trip to Abilene to face McMurry (Fri., Oct. 30 at 3:00 p.m.) and Hardin-Simmons (Sat., Oct. 31 at 3:00 p.m.)
The LeTourneau University men’s golf team is in fifth after the opening round of the Abilene Intercollegiate at the Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene.
The YellowJackets posted a round of 314. Southwestern University leads the eight-team field after posting a 289. Cody Hebert of Southwestern is the top individual with a 68. LETU led by junior Seth Walters, who shot a 75 and tied for 15th. In his round, Walters was one of three players in the field to record five birdies.
For the rest of the LETU lineup, senior Houston Moore is tied for 18th after shooting a 76, followed by sophomore Daniel Kay, who tied for 29th with an 80. Moore had four birdies during his round. Sophomore Shance Sims tied for 39th (83) and sophomore Chris Clark is 43rd (84).
Tuesday’s final round will wrap up the fall season for the YellowJackets.
