Area high school volleyball teams played their season openers yesterday and

have a quick turnaround to start tournament play today and tomorrow.

 

Paris – The Chisum Lady Mustangs will play host at Mustang gym, where the

Prairiland Lady Patriots will join.  The Paris Lady Cats travel to play in

the Van Tournament.

 

MP – The Chapel Hill Lady Devils will be on the road to take part in the

Redwater Tournament, while the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers travel for the Van

Tournament.  Meanwhile, the Pittsburg Lady Pirates will host the Mt. Vernon

Lady Tigers on Friday.

 

SS – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will take on the road to the Garland

Tournament.  The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers make their way to visit the

Pittsburg Lady Pirates Friday evening.  And the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles

travel north to Lamar County for the Chisum Tournament.

 

The Texas Rangers use the long ball to beat the New York Mets yesterday

afternoon, 5-1.  It was Joey Gallo, once again, going deep with a man

aboard for Texas [AUDIO].  It’s Gallo’s seventh home run in the last nine

games. Texas remains four games out of a Wildcard spot in the American

League and 17.5 games behind AL West leading Houston.  The Rangers have the

day off today before returning to Globe Life Park tomorrow to host a

weekend series with the Astros.

 

The Dallas Cowboys prepare for their second preseason game Saturday night

against the L-A Rams. Several Cowboys will be questionable to play Saturday

due to injury including tackle Tyron Smith nursing a stiff back, Cornerback

Jourdan Lewis who’s recovering from a hamstring pull and middle linebacker,

Jaylon Smith, who the Dallas coaching staff continues to bring along

delicately as he recovers from a knee injury.  Kickoff on Saturday is set

for 8:00 pm.

 

Houston Texans defensive tackle and longtime New England Patriot, Vince

Wilfork has decided to retire after a 13-year career. Wilfork is a 2x

Super Bowl Champion and 5x pro-bowl selection.
