For 20 years the Association of Texas Small School Bands has sponsored a concert competition called the Outstanding Performance Series that recognizes the best concert bands from all 4A and smaller middle schools and high schools in the state of Texas.  North Lamar’s high school band recently received notice of being among the elite.

Schools begin the process by submitting an approved contest recording to a region level, where by class, two marches and three concert pieces are judged and chosen to advance from all the schools of that region.  This continues to the area level and then to the state level.  From here a panel of judges at the Summer Texas Bandmaster Association listen to those that have advanced and choose the best Concert March and Concert Piece performed by class.

The North Lamar Symphonic Band was recognized for the best Concert March in Class 4A of their performance of‘Radio Waves’ by Fred Jewell, and the best Concert Piece in class 4A of their performance of ‘Rocky Point Holiday’ by Ron Nelson.  This marks the sixth time that the North Lamar Bands have received the Outstanding Performance Series awards.  The band is under the direction of Randy Jones with assistance from Jason R. Smith and Roderick Boyce.
