Rainouts and Reschedules in Local Sports for Thursday

Paris – A rainy week is having an impact on scheduling in local high school sports.  The North Lamar Pantherette’s were scheduled to play at the Celina tournament today through Saturday, but it has been cancelled.  The Paris Wildcats are scheduled to participate in the Cotton Ford Relay’s in Greenville today.  

Running events are scheduled, field events have been cancelled.

Meanwhile the Paris Wildcat and North Lamar Panthers have each qualified for the soccer playoffs.  Paris was crowned district champion of 11-4A. North Lamar is the number 4 seed.  Both teams will receive a bye in the opening round with no teams occupying district 12-4A.

Mount Pleasant – The Pittsburg Pirate soccer clinched the district 13-4A title against the Pleasant Grove Hawks this past Friday. Pittsburg soccer will pick back upnext Tuesday when they take on the Atlanta Rabbits on the road.

Meanwhile, in baseball and softball the weather has had an impact.  The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers district contest against the Texas High Lady Tigers has been moved from today and is rescheduled to be played tomorrow evening. First pitch is set for 6pm.  The opening day of the Highway 271 showcase has also been cancelled.  The Mt. Pleasant Tiger and Pittsburg Pirate baseball teams will try to pick back up tomorrow with the Tigers facing Newman Smith and Kilgore while the Pirates play Brownsboro and Lindale.  Games begin at 1 and 4pm respectively.

Sulphur Springs – High school baseball and softball will be picks back up.  The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be in tournament action at Texas High today. The Wildcat baseball team will then begin district play next Tuesday on the road against the Texas High Tigers.  Meanwhile, tomorrow evening the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats continue district play when they host the Marshall Lady Mavericks. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6pm.

In college softball the Texas A&M Commerce Lady Lions hit the road to take on Eastern New Mexico for a pair of weekend double headers.  Riding a 7 game winning streak the Lady Lions play at 1 and 3pm on Friday afternoon, followed by Saturday’s games at the same respective times.  The Lady Lions softball team is 19-5 overall and 5-3 in the Lone Star Conference.

Last night in the NBA the Dallas Mavericks fall to the Detroit Pistons 102-96.  Dirk had a 25 point 10 rebound double double, while Chandler Parsons also added 25 points, however the Mavs have now lost four straight games and at 33-32 drop to the seventh seen in the west, half a game ahead of Houston.  Dallas will take on the Pacers on Saturday at 1pm.

The Texas Rangers continue their hot start to Cactus league play with a 11-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds.  Atlanta, Texas native Drew Stubbs drove in a pair of runs for the Rangers and also scored a run.  Texas will face the Chicago White Sox this afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm Central time.

And NFL free agency began yesterday afternoon.  The Dallas Cowboys resigned middle Linebacker Rolando McClain to a one year deal worth five millions dollars.  Today the Cowboys are scheduled to visit with Free Agent quarterback Matt Moore and Defensive Lineman Cedric Thornton.
