Paris – Clay Cox, who has served as assistant baseball coach for Paris Junior College this past year, has been named to replace longtime baseball coach Deron Clark. Cox came to PJC from the University of West Alabama where, in 2015, he helped lead the Tigers to a 42-11 (26-6) record, a Gulf South Conference regular season title and GSC tournament championship.

There’d be no come from behind victory last night for the Texas Rangers as they lose to Oakland 6-3, snapping a modest 3 game winning streak. Joey Gallo went deep in the loss. The Rangers remain 3.5 games ahead of Houston for first place in the AL West with a 58-43 record on the season. Texas and Oakland will play the rubber match tonight at Globe Life Park in Arlington. It’s Darvish day [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch this evening is at 7:05.

As we continue our countdown to Cowboys training camp, which the ‘boys arrive tomorrow in Oxnard, California and begin practice on Friday, players continue making headlines for the wrong reasons. Already serving a four game suspension Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is expected to have that ban extended to ten games after either failing another or missing a league mandatory drug test. Gregory, a 2015 second round draft pick out of Nebraska, has checked himself into an undisclosed drug rehab facility.

And the Dallas Mavericks have signed a player from their summer league team, adding Jameel Warney to the roster. It’ll be a two-year, partially guaranteed deal for the three-time America East player of the year from Stony Brook.
