Wilfredo Sanchez cards 77 in opening round at NCAA Division II South Central/West Super Regional

STOCKTON, Calif. – Texas A&M University-Commerce golfer Wilfredo Sanchez shot a 77 in his opening round at the NCAA Division II South Central/West Super Regional Tournament at Brookside Country Club on Monday.

The junior from The Woodlands is in a tie for the 98th spot on the leaderboard and has 36 holes to make a charge towards the top.

Sanchez had two birdies in the round Monday and struck the ball well, but he will be aiming for a better putting performance in his next two rounds.

Starting on the 10th hole, Sanchez carded a birdie, but then bogeyed Nos. 11 and 12. He earned a par on three straight holes before a double bogey on No. 16 and a bogey on No. 18 to sit at 4-over par at the turn.

He found consistency on the front nine with six pars. He birdied No. 5 but had bogeys on 3 and 8 for his final 5-over par 77 for the day.
