Mount Pleasant High School seniors hold a toy drive for local students.

Clothes for the Classroom, a group made of Mount Pleasant High School seniors, is holding a toy drive for local children.  The group, whose motto is “for students, by students,” had a clothing drive before school started and collected over 1,800 articles of clothing they distributed to local students. With the help of Communities in Schools, all toy donations will benefit students in Titus County schools. On Monday, December 9, Detective Marquin Brewer and Michael McGhee, representing the Mount Pleasant Law Enforcement Association, presented a check for $400 to the group. Los estudiantes de último año de la Escuela Secundaria Mount Pleasant realizan una colecta de juguetes para los estudiantes locales.

Clothes for the Classroom, un grupo formado por estudiantes de último año de la Escuela Secundaria Mount Pleasant, está llevando a cabo una colecta de juguetes para los niños locales.  El grupo, cuyo lema es “para los estudiantes, por los estudiantes”, realizó una colecta de ropa antes de que comenzaran las clases y recolectó más de 1,800 prendas de vestir que distribuyeron a los estudiantes locales. Con la ayuda de Communities in Schools, todas las donaciones de juguetes beneficiarán a los estudiantes de las escuelas del condado de Titus. El lunes 9 de diciembre, el detective Marquin Brewer y Michael McGhee, en representación de la Asociación de Aplicación de la Ley de Mount Pleasant, presentaron un cheque por $400 al grupo. Wallace Middle School places in the Robotics competition

Five MPISD robotics teams representing P.E. Wallace Middle and Brice Elementary Schools competed in the TYRA SSMS VEX IQ Robotics Competition on Saturday, December 7, at Sulphur Springs Middle School.

The competition featured 30 teams from the surrounding area. In the VEX IQ competition, they tasked the teams of students with designing and building a robot to play with other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. This year’s challenge involves:

• Driving the robot to pick up a ball.
• Passing the ball to their partner team.
• Shooting the ball into a net for points.

At the end of the qualification matches, Wallace Team 1 and Wallace Team 3 advanced to the final round.

Wallace Team 1 finished the competition in 7th place overall. Team members included Jake Jones, Braxton Arnold, Hatzael Antolin, and David Adame.

Wallace Team 3 finished 14th overall. The team members were Carter Cameron, Thatcher Drange, Shane Dimon, and Kolton Heeren.

The MPISD Robotics teams will resume competing after the holidays.  Tara Flores, Jack Jones, and Jamie King are the coaches.

La Escuela Intermedia Wallace se ubica en la competencia de Robótica

Cinco equipos de robótica de MPISD que representan a las escuelas intermedias P.E. Wallace y Brice Elementary compitieron en la competencia de robótica TYRA SSMS VEX IQ el sábado 7 de diciembre en la Escuela Secundaria Sulphur Springs.

La competición contó con 30 equipos de los alrededores. En la competencia VEX IQ, encargaron a los equipos de estudiantes que diseñaran y construyeran un robot para jugar con otros equipos en un desafío de ingeniería basado en juegos. El reto de este año implica:

• Conducir el robot para recoger una pelota.
• Pasar el balón a su equipo compañero.
• Lanzar la pelota a la red para obtener puntos.

Al final de los partidos de clasificación, Wallace Team 1 y Wallace Team 3 avanzaron a la ronda final.

Wallace Team 1 terminó la competencia en el 7º lugar general. Los miembros del equipo incluyeron a Jake Jones, Braxton Arnold, Hatzael Antolin y David Adame.

Wallace Team 3 terminó 14º en la general. Los miembros del equipo eran Carter Cameron, Thatcher Drange, Shane Dimon y Kolton Heeren.

MPHS UIL Spelling and Math teams win big

The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Spelling and Math and Science teams traveled to additional tournaments on Saturday, December 7. The UIL Spelling team competed at the Waco Connally High School Speech and Academic Meet, and the Math team competed in the Spring Hill Math and Science Meet in Longview. The Spelling team was 1st place overall, with all five members placing individually. The Math and Science teams earned second place in the large school sweepstakes trophy.

Los equipos de ortografía y matemáticas de MPHS UIL ganan a lo grande

Los equipos de Ortografía y Matemáticas y Ciencias de la UIL de la Escuela Secundaria Mount Pleasant viajaron a torneos adicionales el sábado 7 de diciembre. El equipo de Ortografía de UIL compitió en el Encuentro Académico y de Oratoria de la Escuela Secundaria Waco Connally, y el equipo de Matemáticas compitió en el Encuentro de Matemáticas y Ciencias de Spring Hill en Longview. El equipo de Ortografía obtuvo el 1er lugar en la general, con los cinco miembros colocándose individualmente. Los equipos de Matemáticas y Ciencias obtuvieron el segundo lugar en el trofeo del sorteo escolar grande.

MPJH and MPHS Cheerleaders place in Crandall

The Mount Pleasant High School and Mount Pleasant Junior High Cheerleaders competed in the Crandall Invitational on Saturday, December 7. Both teams placed in the top three in their divisions.

MPJH competed in the Middle School Division with nine other squads, taking home the Championship, more than nine points ahead of second. They also earned Best Band Chant, Best Fight Song, and Best Crowd Leading awards.

MPHS competed in the 5A division and finished in third place, only .6 back from second place and .9 back from first.

The MPJH and MPHS Cheer Squads will compete again at the Dallas NCA State of Texas competition in preparation for the UIL State Championships on January 17-18 in Fort Worth. The coaches are Karissa Lopez and Leigh Baker.

Lugar de las porristas de MPJH y MPHS en Crandall

s porristas de Mount Pleasant High School y Mount Pleasant Junior High compitieron en el Crandall Invitational el sábado 7 de diciembre. Ambos equipos se ubicaron entre los tres primeros de sus divisiones.

MPJH compitió en la División de Escuelas Intermedias con otros nueve equipos, llevándose a casa el Campeonato, más de nueve puntos por delante del segundo. También ganaron los premios al Mejor Canto de Banda, Mejor Canción de Lucha y Mejor Líder de Multitud.

MPHS compitió en la división 5A y terminó en tercer lugar, a solo .6 del segundo lugar y .9 del primero.

Los escuadrones de porristas de MPJH y MPHS competirán nuevamente en la competencia del estado de Texas de Dallas NCA en preparación para los Campeonatos Estatales de la UIL el 17 y 18 de enero en Fort Worth. Los entrenadores son Karissa Lopez y Leigh Baker.
