Two Life Sentences For Brutally Beating Retired Officer

After deliberating for only 55 minutes, a Gregg County jury convicted an East Texas man of robbing and beating an 80-year-old retired police officer with a crowbar and evading police in a high-speed pursuit. Jimmy Edward Harris, Jr., 33, of Longview, was then sentenced to two life terms in state prison. He must serve at least 30 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.
