American Legion Post 30 in Paris has started its annual fundraising efforts. They currently have three ongoing fundraising raffles:

Raffle #1: Six $100 Wal-Mart gift cards.

Drawings will be Saturday, Oct 21, and all winning tickets will return to the pot for the next drawing. Tickets are $5 each.

Raffle #2: One Xbox Series X

One PlayStation5 God of War

Drawings will be Saturday, Oct 21, and the winning ticket will return to the pot for the next drawing. Tickets are $5 each.

Raffle #3: One Remington 870 Express 12-gauge shotgun.

One Ruger American .308 rifle with a scope

One $350 Atwoods Gift Card.

Drawings will be on Veterans Day, Nov 11, and the winning tickets will return to the pot for the next draw. Tickets are $5 each.

Commander Bill Townsend said, “We use the proceeds from these raffles to support local Veterans and Youth of Lamar County. In the past, we have given away four $500 scholarships and assisted local Veterans in need with grants for over $1,600 to help them through hard times. We’ve awarded over $1,000 to local Scouts that have received their Eagle Scout rank and $1,000 to help support local Boys and Girls Scouts. This year we are sending a local High School student to Boys State in Austin to learn and participate in how government works!”

National Night Out – Paris

Annual National Night Out Event Slated for October 3, 2023

Paris, TX – The Paris Police Department, coordinating with other Lamar County first responder organizations, will host the Annual – National Night Out event on Tuesday, October 3, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at the Love Civic Center Pavilion. This year marks the 40th annual celebration of National Night Out, a community-building national campaign that promotes partnerships between public safety agencies and their respective communities.

Police Chief Richard Salter said, “National Night Out affords the City’s Public Safety Departments’ employees an annual venue to interact with citizens and our youth in a positive environment to help build trust and facilitate a true sense of community” “The Paris Police Department is happy to organize this National Night Out event for the citizens of Lamar County.” Kimmie Snowton, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Paris Police Department, said. “We look forward to meeting, visiting, and enjoying the evening with citizens of all ages.”

Paris Police, Fire and EMS Departments, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, The Texas Department of Transportation, Reno Police and Fire Departments, Lamar County Game Wardens, Texas Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol, and several more representatives from Paris businesses and Non-profit Organizations support this year’s event. Some have generously contributed food and door prizes that the event will give away during the evening. According to Mr. Snowton, many door prizes will include more than 20 bicycles, Apple iPads, and Televisions.

The “Slightly Used Band” will provide live music entertainment for the evening. The Love Civic Center Pavilion is at 2005 S. Collegiate Drive, adjacent to the City of Paris Sports Complex and Pump Track Paris. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.
