A Crash Kills One Person Near Jacksonville

Last Sunday evening around 9:00 there was a one-vehicle fatal crash on FM-22, 3.3 miles southeast of Jacksonville in Cherokee County. Reportedly, the driver of a 2000 Ford F-150, Brandon Steven Morton, 35, of Jacksonville, was traveling west on FM-22 when for an undetermined reason, the vehicle went off the roadway to the north. Morton overcorrected, causing him to skid back across the road to the south and then off into the ditch where it struck a tree with its right side. Paramedics transported Morton to UT Health-Jacksonville where later Dr. Michael Sonier pronounced him dead. He was transported to Boren Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The crash remains under investigation.
