A Pitching Duel Ends In A Lufkin Loss

Matthew Matthijs (muh-TAY-is) of Greenville NC struck out 12 in 4-1/3 innings and gave up no runs or walks. The winning pitcher helped his team defeat Southwest Lufkin TX 2-1 last night. Chandler Spencer scored the tying run in the third for Southwest. A walk-off error led Southeast past Southwest. Coach Bud Maddux of Lufkin has been coaching 41 years. Wednesday night he was handed his first loss in his first trip to the Little League World Series by NC who slid into the United States Championship Game. Lufkin’s next game is Thursday (Aug 24) at 6:30 pm CDT against England. Southeast and Japan remain undefeated in the double elimination bracket.
