Students at Aaron Parker Elementary recently brought literature to life by building lean-tos as part of their study of Gary Paulsen’s novel Hatchet.

As they read about the main character’s survival in the wilderness, students stepped into his shoes by creating their miniature lean-to shelters. This activity combined creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning, helping to deepen their understanding of the challenges faced in the story while encouraging critical thinking and teamwork.
