Abbott and the Austin Police Department

The back-and-forth arguing continues between Governor Greg Abbott and the city of Austin. Abbott is considering putting the Austin Police Department under the command and control of the DPS. Former Travis County Sheriff and State Representative Terry Keel says the public would not notice much of a change. As proposed, even the police budget would be taken over by the state. All tax dollars used for funding would be appropriated by the DPS Safety Commission to the Austin PD, completely bypassing the city council.
