Abbott Signs Transgender Athletic Bill

Governor Abbott signed House Bill 25 into law on Monday. It requires student-athletes in Texas to compete on sports teams that correspond with the sex listed on their birth certificate shortly after birth. The bill’s author, State Representative Valoree Swanson, said the legislation protects girls. However, the House Democrats argued the law would lead to the bullying of trans-kids and even suicide.
