KLTV- in Tyler is reporting that the Sigma AgriScience Fertilizer plant agreed to temporarily shut down until they can prove they’re not polluting the town of Winnsboro. Residents living near the plant complained that their health and quality of life have suffered since the plant opened in June 2021. On Wednesday afternoon, sixty people showed up at the Wood County Courthouse in Quitman for a hearing involving the plant. Some of those attending complained about the smell and said they had had difficulty breathing. The plant will remain closed until it complies with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, state laws, and Winnsboro city ordinances.
