An Extension Of Mt Pleasant’s Bypass

ATLANTA – A section of US 271 south of Mount Pleasant will be upgraded extending the current bypass and constructing an overpass and interchange at Farm-to-Market Road 3417 according to plans approved in May by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be extending the freeway section of US 271 south about one mile from where it ends now,” said Bill Compton, area engineer for TxDOT in Mount Pleasant. “This will include constructing an overpass and interchange at FM 3417, as well as new entrance/exit ramps and turnarounds under the bridge to help improve traffic flow.”

East Texas Bridge, Inc. of Longview received the contract for the construction project with a bid of $12.3 million.

Work on the project should begin in August and take about 17 months to complete, Compton said.
