Area High School Football Playoffs Continue Plus Mavs Celtics Tonight

Paris – The playoffs continue in high school football with the area round. The Paris Wildcats are 8-3 and the lone survivor in the Red River Valley. They’ll take on the Alvarado Indians Friday night at Longview’s Lobo Stadium. Kickoff on 101.9 KBUS is at 7:30. High school hoops, the Honey Grove boys and girls sweep Chisum last night. The Warriors pull away in the 2nd half for a 50-31 win. The Lady Warriors edge out the Lady Mustangs 34-29. The North Lamar Pantherette’s drop their season opener on the road to the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats 42-29 and the Paris Lady Cats fall to the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers 70-34.

Mount Pleasant – The playoffs continue in high school football with the area round. The Gilmer Buckeyes are 10-1 district and bi-district champions and the lone survivor in the area after last week. They’ll take on the Melissa Cardinals on Friday at Mesquite’s Hanby Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30. High school hoops is underway in east Texas. Last night the Mt. Pleasant Tigers win their opener on the road over the Pleasant Grove Hawks 68-67. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers win big over the Paris Lady Cats 70-34.

Sulphur Springs – The playoffs continue in high school football with the area round. The Cumby Trojans are 9-2 bi-district champions and the lone survivor in the area after last week. They’ll take on the Iola Bulldogs at Palestine Westwood HS. Kickoff on Friday night is set for 7pm. High school hoops is underway. Last night he Sulphur Springs Lady Cats win at home over the North Lamar Pantherette’s 42-29. The 2-1 Lady Cats will be at Hugo on Friday night.

Last night the Dallas Stars lose again in overtime, this time 2-1 to the New Jersey Devils. It’s the fifth overtime loss for the Stars, who’re now 6-6-5 on the season with 17 points. Dallas will be back on the ice tomorrow night at the American Airline Center. Puck drop is at 7:30.

The Dallas Mavericks are the Boston Garden against the Celtics. The Mavs are 2-7 on the young season. Tip off is at 6:30.

It was a big night in college hoops. The top ranked Duke Blue Devils fall at the hands of 7th ranked Kansas 77-75. Jayhawks guard Frank Mason hit the winning shot with 1.8 seconds left. Meanwhile, 2nd ranked Kentucky dismantles Michigan State 69-48 behind 23 points from freshman Malik Monk. And the Baylor Bears upset number four Oregon 66-49.

And the latest College Football Playoff polls were released. As expected, Alabama remains number 1. Ohio State is 2. Michigan is 3 and Clemson is 4. Louisville and Washington are on the bubble at 5&6.
