Harrison, Whitfield, Faux, Hampton Earn Women’s Hoops Honors


Games: December 14, 2020-January 2, 2021

CO-EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alex Harrison, So., F, Louisiana College

Louisiana College sophomore forward Alex Harrison (Oakdale, La.) scored 15 points in the first half, en route to a 20-point performance as the Lady Wildcats topped McMurry 63-50. She came up with four rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal while shooting 6-of-9 from the field, 3-of-4 from outside, and 5-for-5 at the line. 

CO-EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Keauna Whitfield, Sr., G, LeTourneau

LeTourneau senior guard Keauna Whitfield (Rosebud, Texas) was named to the DCC Christmas Classic All-Tournament Team while averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game as the YellowJackets posted a 3-1 record. She posted 26 points with six rebounds in a 73-57 win over Sul Ross State, followed by 20 points in a 73-55 victory against host Dallas Christian. It is Whitfield’s second Player of the Week of the season and third of her career. 

CO-WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ashley Faux, Fr., F, Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman forward Ashley Faux (Frisco, Texas) scored a season-high 16 points on 8-12 shooting to lead the Cru to a 67-64 win at LeTourneau. She also had nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots in that game. Overall, Faux averaged 9.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game as UMHB went 2-0 going into the Christmas break. 

CO-WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Vania Hampton, So., F, Sul Ross State

Sul Ross State sophomore forward Vania Hampton (Austin, Texas) averaged 12.4 points and 12.2 rebounds to lead the Lobos to a 2-3 record. She posted four double-doubles in the five games, including 14 points and 15 rebounds in a 69-59 victory at McMurry and 15 and 16 in a loss at Hardin-Simmons. 



UT Dallas junior guard/forward Sydney Brock (Killeen, Texas) came off the bench for 12 points and added a career-high nine rebounds in the Comets’ 69-68 road loss at Howard Payne on Saturday. Brock was 5-for-12 from the field and added a block and a steal. 

East Texas Baptist junior guard/forward Hanna Hudson (Grandview, Texas) averaged 11.0 points, and 3.5 rebounds as the Tigers went 2-0. In a 76-59 win at McMurry, she recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Hudson followed with 11 points and two more steals in a 64-50 win at Hardin-Simmons to move ETBU to 8-0 on the season. 

Belhaven senior center Destiny Johnson (Memphis, Tenn.) posted a double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds in the Blazers’ 101-98 victory over Birmingham-Southern. 


McMurry sophomore forward Destiny Mathews (Palestine, Texas) averaged 15.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game as the War Hawks went 0-3. She led McMurry in scoring and rebounds in all three contests, including 21 points and eight boards in a 69-59 loss to Sul Ross State. 

Howard Payne junior guard Salina Ali (San Antonio, Texas) led the Lady Jackets with 14 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals in a 69-68 victory over UT Dallas. She was also 4-of-6 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line.

Eberhardt, Underwood, Johnson named Men’s Basketball Players of the Week.


Games: December 15, 2020-January 2, 2021

CO-EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Andrew Eberhardt, Jr., G, LeTourneau

LeTourneau junior guard Andrew Eberhardt averaged 29.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game as the YellowJackets started the season 2-0. He scored a career-high 31 points with 11 rebounds, three assists, and four steals in a 100-63 win over Howard Payne. Eberhardt was 7-of-13 from three-point range in that game. In an 84-67 victory against Mary Hardin-Baylor, he followed with 27 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. 

CO-EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Dimitrius Underwood, Sr., G, UT Dallas

UT Dallas senior guard Dimitrius Underwood (Mesquite, Texas) recorded his second consecutive triple-double to open the 2020-21 season. He had 18 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists in an 82-72 road win over Howard Payne on Saturday. Underwood was 5-for-17 from the field and 7-9 from the line as he moved in outright second place all-time in the ASC with four career triple-double performances. It is Underwood’s 10th career Player of the Week award and second of the season.

WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Josiah Johnson, So., G, Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore guard Josiah Johnson earned his second Player of the Week of the season as he averaged 38.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals as the Cru split a pair of contests. He scored a season-high 39 points on 12-of-25 shooting in a loss at LeTourneau, followed by 38 points with three steals in a 75-73 victory at East Texas Baptist. Johnson shot 51 percent (23-of-45) overall and 25-of-30 at the free-throw line.



Belhaven sophomore guard Luke Couch (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game as the Blazers split to open the season. He scored 12 points with seven rebounds and three steals in a loss at Birmingham-Southern, followed by 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting while avenging the Panthers’ loss with an 84-80 home victory. 

East Texas Baptist graduate guard Landin Brown (Houston, Texas) averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.5 steals as the Tigers went 1-1. In an 83-67 win at Huntingdon, he scored 12 points with seven assists and four steals. Brown followed 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and five steals in a two-point loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor.


Howard Payne senior guard Jaylan Ballou (Port Arthur, Texas) led the Yellow Jackets with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds to go with six assists and three steals in a loss to UT Dallas. 

Hardin-Simmons junior guard Kyle Brennon (Houston, Texas) led the Cowboys with 20 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the field and 7-of-7 from the line in an 85-70 win over Wayland Baptist.
