Baseball and Softball Plus Mavs Face Curry Tonight in Today’s Sports

Paris – All-Region players have been released by TABC for Texas high school hoops. On the boys side the Embry Twins from Paris High Jordan and Jared were recognized to the all-region team in class 4A. On the girls side, Senior Jamie Woods of Clarksville, Junior Bailee Greer of Detroit and Sophomore Diavian Shaw were named to the class 2A All Region team. Cooper’s Monica Stevenson is recognized out of class 3A and junior Madison Morrison is 4A All-Region.

The 15-3A All-District boys basketball team was also released. Superlatives from the Red River Valley include Prairiland senior Jordan Harrison as the district’s offensive MVP. Chisum senior Peyton Flippin as the defensive MVP and Cooper sophomore Keldrin Gooden is named Newcomer of the year.

Mount Pleasant – High school baseball and softball pick back up this weekend with district competition. The after a 16-1 district win on Tuesday night the Mt. Pleasant Tigers take to the diamond on the road against interstate 30 rival Sulphur Springs. The Mt. Pleasant softball team looks to stay perfect in district tonight. They’ll host the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats. The Lady Tigers are 3-0 in district play, first pitch tomorrow is at 6pm.

The Chapel Hill Red Devils will make the short drive to Pittsburg to face the Pirates at 6pm this evening, while the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers take on the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas in Morris County at 5:30.

Sulphur Springs – High school baseball and softball pick back up this weekend with district competition. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats look to continue early success in 15-5A when host district unbeaten Mt. Pleasant. First pitch this evening is scheduled for 7pm. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will make the trip down I 30 to play the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers at 6pm.

The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers take on the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas in Morris County tomorrow night. The Purple Lady Tigers are 1-2 in district play

In college softball the Texas A&M Commerce Lady Lions will host West Texas A&M for a pair of double headers. Tomorrow’s games are set for 2 and 4pm. Sunday will be 1 and 3.

Last night in the NHL Jamie Benn dominates the night to lead the Stars to a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightening. Benn scored twice including the go-ahead goal in the 3rd period. He also had the 1st assist on Stephen John’s first career goal. Cody Eakin had a big night as well with three assists. The Stars now lead the western conference with 95 points and will take on the Islanders tomorrow at 7pm.

Tonight the Dallas Mavericks welcome the Golden State Warriors to the AAC. the Mavs enter the contest at 34-34 on the season and currently hold the 7 seed in the western conference. Golden State leads the west and is on pace for the greatest season in NBA history with a 61-6 record on the season. Tip off tonight is at 7:30.

The round of 64 kicked off yesterday in the NCAA March Madness tournament. A pair of 12 seeded teams take down their 5th seeded opponents. Out of the Ivy league, Yale defeats Baylor 79-75, while Arkansas Little Rock eliminated Purdue 85-83 in double overtime. The round of 64 continues today beginning at 2:10pm with 7 seed Iowa against 10 seed Temple. 1 seed Oregon plays 16 seed Holy Cross at 6:30 tonight.
