Basketball All-District Awards Announced in Today’s Local Sports

Paris – The 15-4A basketball All-District awards have been released. Your district MVP’s are Paris Wildcat senior Forwards Jordan and Jared Embry. The Co-Offensive MVP’s are Junior Wildcat guard Jalon Pipkins and North Lamar Senior guard Levi Porter. Defensive MVP’s were Senior Wildcat guard Jalen Wallace, Senior Pleasant Grove Forward Cross  Bright and Senior Liberty Eylau guard Decorian Meadows.  Co-Newcomer of the year goes to Wildcat Sophomore guard Josh Robinson and Pleasant Grove Senior Tre Reynolds.  Paris Coach Billy Mac Steed was named coach of the year.  

Rain or shine, the crosstown showdown on the pitch took place last night. The Paris Wildcat soccer team dominated North Lamar 7-1, but the North Lamar Pantherette’s would gain revenge with a 1-nil shutout victory over the Lady Cats.  Karlee Alexander scored the winning goal for North Lamar.

Mount Pleasant – High school baseball and softball will be picking back up.  The Chapel Hill Red Devils begin tournament play today at Quitman, while the Mt. Pleasant Tigers and Pittsburg Pirates begin the Highway 271 showcase tomorrow.  Mt. Pleasant and Pittsburg take to the field at 1pm with the Tigers taking on Atlanta.  The Pirates face Brookhill.  On Friday Mt. Pleasant takes on Newman Smith at 1 and Kilgore at 4.  While Pittsburg faces Brownsboro and Lindale at the same respective times. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers softball team continue district play following Monday’s win over Longview.  They’ll face Texas High tomorrow night at Mt. Pleasant High School.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30.

In college baseball the NTCC Eagles take on Navarro College tomorrow at 3 o’clock while NTCC Softball is off until the 18th when they face Paris Junior College.

Sulphur Springs – High school baseball and softball will be picking back up.  The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be in tournament action at Texas High beginning tomorrow.  Sulphur Springs baseball will then begin district play next Tuesday on the road against the Texas High Tigers.  Meanwhile, on Friday Evening the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats continue district play when they host the Marshall Lady Mavericks. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.

In college softball the Texas A&M Commerce Lady Lions hit the road to take on Eastern New Mexico for a pair of weekend double headers.  Riding a 7 game winning streak the Lady Lions play at 1 and 3pm on Friday afternoon, followed by Saturday’s games at the same respective times.  The Lady Lions softball team is 19-5 overall and 5-3 in the Lone Star Conference.

Last night in the NHL the Dallas Stars fall to the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in overtime.  Despite the loss the Stars gain a point putting them at the top of the western conference with 88 on the season.  But the Chicago Blackhawks loom closely with 87 points.  The two teams will meet on Friday night in a west showdown.  Puck drop at the American Airline Center is at 7:30.

The Dallas Mavericks get back on the court tonight against the Detroit Pistons tonight.  The Mavs at 33-31 are …th in the Western conference.  Detroit is fighting for a playoff spot themselves at 32-31 and are currently 9th in the East.  Tip off tonight is at 7:30.

And in the big 12 hoops tournament the 22nd ranked Baylor Bears take on the 23rd ranked Texas Longhorns in the quarterfinals at 11:30 this morning, while 6th ranked Oklahoma plays number 21 Iowa State, tipping off at 8pm.
