Basketball Results and Rangers Add Desmond In Today’s Sports

Paris – Four Red River Valley hoops teams have advanced to the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs. On Saturday the 5th ranked Paris Wildcats handled Canton 87-47. The Wildcats will take on District rival Liberty Eylau in the regional quarterfinal round. Details are still in the works. The North Lamar Panthers pull away in the second half to beat Athens 78-60. Tomorrow night North Lamar will face district opponent Pleasant Grove at Mt. Pleasant high school. Pre-Game on MIX 107.7. begins at 6:45. Tip off is at 7pm. On Friday night the 2nd Ranked Clarksville Tigers throttle Fruitvale 81-41. Clarksville will take on Big Sandy out of Tyler tomorrow night at Sulphur Springs high school. Tip off is at 7:30. And Roxton hangs on to beat Bellvue 62-57. The Lions will face 16th ranked Campbell tomorrow at 6pm at Sulphur Springs prior to Clarksville and Big Sandy.

Meanwhile, the Prairiland Patriots saw their season come to an end 97-52 at the hands of Van Alstyne.

Mount Pleasant – High school basketball playoffs picked back up over the weekend and will continue with the regional quarterfinal round for the boys with the state tournament approaching for the girls. Friday night the 25th ranked Daingerfield Tigers beat 23rd ranked Whitewright 55-42. with the win, the Blue Tigers advance to take on Alba-Golden with the game heard live on Star 96.9. Game time and site are to be determined. The winner will advance to the regional tournament in Rockwall and face the winner of 6th ranked Red Oak Life and 8th ranked Peaster. At the girls 3A Region 2 tournament the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers saw their season end at the hands of Grandview 56-42. Grandview would later fall to Brock 41-30. The Gilmer Lady Buckeyes also fell in the regional semis 63-36 to Argyle. And on Thursday night the Mt. Vernon Tigers defeated the Tom Bean Tomcats. The Purple Tigers face 7th ranked Van Alstyne tomorrow night at Royse City at 7pm.

Alba Golden advances after beating DeKalb 65-52. With the win, the Golden Panthers meet the 25th ranked Daingerfield Tigers. The game can be heard on Star 96.9. Game time and site are to be determined. The winner will advance to the regional tournament in Rockwall and face the winner of 6th ranked Red Oak Life and 8th ranked Peaster. At the girls 3A Region 2 tournament the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers saw their season end at the hands of Grandview 56-42. Grandview would later fall to Brock 41-30. Mt. Vernon girls basketball finished their season with an overall record of 20-6.The 8th ranked Alba Golden girls fell to 5th ranked Brock 64-46 and were 27-9 overall on the year.

Last night in the NBA the Dallas Mavericks breeze past Minnesota 128-101. With a 32-28 record on the season, the Mavs are tied with Portland for the 6th seed in the western conference. Dallas has now won three of four and take on Orlando tomorrow.

The Dallas Stars host the Detroit Redwings tonight at the AAC. The Stars have 82 points on the season, good for 2nd in the western conference. Puck drop tonight is set for 7:30.

And the Texas Rangers sign career middle infielder Ian Desmond to a one year deal worth 8 million dollars. Despite playing short stop as a member of the Washington Nationals, the Rangers plan to play Desmond in Left Field.
