Area teams continue the opening week of practice in football and volleyball. This weekend the schools will introduce the teams to their respective communities and will take part in intra-squad scrimmages in football and round robin scrimmages in volleyball. Football teams begin practice in, while volleyball teams prepare to face their first competition in scrimmages this weekend.

Last night the Texas Rangers drop their 2nd game since the trade deadline, falling to Baltimore 3-2. The hunt for a backup quarterback has begun for the Dallas Cowboys. On Tuesday afternoon Kellen Moore suffered a broken right fibula and is expected to be out 2-4 months. Dallas has been connected to having interest in several signal callers. A trade is also being taken into consideration by the Cowboys front office. Dallas returns to practice in Oxnard, California this afternoon.

And the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro began yesterday with group play in women’s soccer. The United States Women’s National team has won gold in the previous three Olympics and start 2016 off with a win over New Zealand 2-0. Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan netted the goals for team USA. The opening ceremony for Rio 2016 will be held Friday night.
