A&M-Texarkana Hosts Bowie County Master Gardeners Event

TEXARKANA, Texas – The Bowie County Master Gardeners and Texas A&M University-Texarkana will present a program titled “Edible Landscapes” on Monday, June 11, 2018. The class will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Room 306 of the Science and Technology Building on the TAMUT campus. This event is free and open to the public, and no reservation is required to attend. The program will be presented by Texas Master Gardener Aarron Corbin, who is currently President of Bowie County Master Gardeners.

The ‘edible landscape’ concept has evolved, exploring many options and variations for more than 40 years. Americans cover millions of acres of valuable agricultural land around their homes with lawn, marigold, azalea beds, wisteria, and privet or maple. Landscape designers know most edible plants are beautiful and that homeowners could grow a meaningful amount of food in their yards.

Aarron will be sharing how to have a beautiful yard that could include blueberries that are decorative all year long, or pear and plum trees that put on a spring show of flowers, ornamental fruits, and yellow fall foliage. These plants aren’t just pretty, they provide great-tasting fruit and can even save you a little money.
