Central Texas Child Dies Of Brain Eating Amoeba Infection

A 10-year-old girl from Bosque County died Monday morning at Cook Children’s Hospital of a brain-eating amoeba infection. The fifth-grader came down with the illness shortly after swimming in the Brazos River last Sunday. She began suffering from a headache, and fever and quickly began deteriorating. Only four people in the last 50-years who came down with the illness have survived.
