Chisum High School Hosts TAEA Region 8 VASE

Chisum High School hosted The TAEA Region 8 VASE Art contest on Saturday, February 11. Thirteen schools submitted two hundred and eighty-five artworks to be juried for the chance to earn a regional gold medal. Chisum had thirty-one students and forty-four artworks compete, of which twenty-three students and twenty-nine artworks received a regional gold medal. In addition, six students received two medals for two artworks, and nine received perfect scores. A composite score of the artwork and student interview determines the rating.

Out of the two hundred and eighty-five artworks, they selected only eighteen as state qualifiers to compete at the State VASE Art Event in San Marcos this April. Junior Adamaris Jimenez was chosen as one of the state qualifiers this year, also her second year in a row as a state qualifier.

In addition to the contest, the event featured Texas A&M Commerce Art Professor Christy Wittmer as a guest speaker. A reception will feature all participating artwork on Thursday, February 23, at Chisum High School’s Performing Arts Center.

Participating students include Grace Ballard, Taylor Bass, Hayden Braziel, Antaneah Burton, Gabriela Cortes, Raegan Cupit, Sabrina Dyck, Slade Farmer, Ansley Fisher, Danielle Halliburton, Taylor Hargan, Jonathan Herron, Rylee Houston, Angel Ibarra, Adamaris Jimenez, Madison Jones, Daron Justice, Hutson Maddox, Thalia Marin, Mason Miller, Jade Morphew, Ian Parish, Bralee Reed, Adriana Serrano, Addison Sharrock, Jazzlynn Smith, Boston Springfield, Nickolas Tassin, Nicky Teichroeb, Isabella Theye, and Peyton Tucker-Booth.
