Chisum High School hosted The TAEA Region 8 VASE Art contest on Saturday, February 11. Thirteen schools submitted two hundred and eighty-five artworks to be juried for the chance to earn a regional gold medal. Chisum had thirty-one students and forty-four artworks compete, of which twenty-three students and twenty-nine artworks received a Regional gold medal. In addition, six students received two awards for two artworks, and nine received perfect scores. A composite score of the artwork and student interview determines the rating.
Out of the two hundred and eighty-five artworks, only eighteen were selected as state qualifiers to compete at the State VASE Art Event in San Marcos this April. Junior Adamaris Jimenez was chosen as one of the state qualifiers this year, also her second year in a row as a state qualifier.
