Chisum HS Student Earns All-State Band Honors

The Association of Texas Small School Bands is pleased to announce the 2022 ATSSB All-State Band selection. More than 10,000 high school band students from across Texas auditioned in twenty-two different regions for a place in their respective all-region bands. Each of the top chairs advanced to one of the five area auditions held this past weekend across the state, and they only selected 286 of these students for all-state honors.

The ATSSB All-State Bands will meet in rehearsals in San Antonio, February 9-12, 2022. Their concert is at 8:30 am on Saturday, Feb 12, in the Lila Cockrell Theatre of the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in downtown San Antonio. Dr. Caroline Beatty, Texas State University, will be the clinician-conductor of the All-State Concert Band, which will premier Rising by Clifton Jones, commissioned by ATSSB.

Evan Martin, a Chisum High School Band member, was selected on Trumpet for this band. They chose Evan for this honor in competitive auditions held this year at region and area levels across the state. It is Evan’s second consecutive selection to this prestigious ensemble.

Evan has been a member of the All-Region, All-Area, and Four States Honor Bands, a qualifier for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, and a member of Key Club, Beta Club, Art Club, UIL, Phi Theta Kappa, and Yearbook. In addition, Evan is a Texas Scholar and was selected this year as a Lamar County Chamber of Commerce Junior Ambassador. Upon graduation, Evan plans to attend Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to pursue a master’s degree in Music Education. Evan is the son of James and Sandi Martin of Paris.
