Choctaw County Man Found Not Guilty in Manslaughter Trial

A Pontotoc County jury of 8 women and 4 men has acquitted a Choctaw County man of 1st degree manslaughter charges. Chase Covington shot Ronnie Wesley Young to death in the parking lot of the Antlers High School Gym. 11 witnesses testified that Young opened Covington’s truck door, punched him several times and tried to pull him out of the moving vehicle. The jury decided that Covington had acted in self-defense. Witnesses also testified that Covington did nothing to provoke Young.
