Constitutional Amendments On May 7 Ballot

Two proposed constitutional amendments will be on the May 7 ballot in Texas. Both involve homestead property tax exemptions that would impact public school districts. One would increase the amount of the residential homestead exemption for public school purposes from $25 to $40,000. The other would authorize the legislature to reduce the amount of school property taxes on homes owned by someone who is elderly or disabled.
