In other baseball news, The Houston Astros fired assistant general manager Brandon Taubman on Thursday, admitting in a statement that his “inappropriate comments” about the acquisition of closer Roberto Osuna were directed at a group of female reporters. The Philadelphia Phillies are hiring former New York Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi as their next skipper. Girardi replaces Gabe Kapler, who was fired after two disappointing seasons. Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres have hired Jayce Tingler of the Texas Rangers as their next manager. Tingler, 38, was the Rangers’ major league player development field coordinator this season, working with outfielders and baserunners.

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired veteran defensive end Michael Bennett from the New England Patriots. The Patriots will receive a 2021 seventh-round pick that could eventually improve to a sixth-round pick. Bennett, who turns 34 on Nov. 13, was suspended by the Patriots for last week’s game for conduct detrimental to the team following a disagreement with defensive line coach Bret Bielema, which sources said occurred in front of other players. The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday.
