Paris – Red River Valley football teams played week 7 of the season on Friday night. The Paris Wildcats open district play with a 16-8 win over Liberty Eylau. The Cooper Bulldogs improve to 2-0 in district after defeating Chisum 30-8. The Detroit Eagles win a battle over Clarksville 38-26. The Mustangs fall to 1-2. Rivercrest remains undefeated after a come back victory over Quinlan Boles 30-22 and Honey Grove beats Linden Kildare 18-14 in their district opener.
Mount Pleasant – Area high school football teams played week 7 of the season on Friday night. The Mt. Vernon Tigers win a thriller over rival Winnsboro 25-20 to improve to 3-0 in district play. The Rivercrest Rebels open district with a win 30-22 over Quinlan Boles to stay perfect on the season. The Pittsburg Pirates blow out Atlanta 56-20. The Daingerfield Tigers crush DeKalb 37-7. And Gilmer breezes by Pleasant Grove 31-10. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers fall to Marshall 48-21 and the Hughes Springs Mustangs lose to White Oak 56-7.
Sulphur Springs – Area high school football teams played week 7 of the season on Friday night. The Mt. Vernon Tigers pick up a huge win over rival Winnsboro 25-20. The purple Tigers are 3-0 in district play. Winnsboro falls to 1-2. The Cooper Bulldogs also win a rivalry, beating Chisum 30-8, moving to 2-0. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats fall to 1-2 in district play after losing to Texas High 23-10. The Cumby Trojans fall for the first time this season 36-30 against Maud. Commerce is edged out by Grand Saline 37-30 and the Greenville Lions lose to Pine Tree 21-3.
Yesterday afternoon the Dallas Cowboys beat the Cincinnati Bengals 28-14 for their forth straight win. Rookie running back, Zeke Elliott, went for over 170 total yards on the days, including a 60 yard pop [AUDIO]. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 227 and a score. With an Eagles loss, the Cowboys sit at the top of the NFC East with a 4-1 record. Dallas will be at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon.
Last night Texas Rangers saw their season come to an end after falling to Toronto 7-6 in extra inning, resulting in an ALDS sweep at the hand of the Blue Jays. The back to back American League West champion Rangers are eliminated from the post season. Toronto will advance to the AL Championship Series against the winner of Boston and Cleveland.
In college football, the top five teams in the country, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan and Washington all pick up wins. 6th ranked Houston is upset by Navy 46-40. 8th ranked Texas A&M beats number 9 Tennessee 45-38. And in the Red River Shootout the 20th ranked Oklahoma Sooners beat Texas 45-40.
