Darivsh Traded Plus Cowboys Update

 

Offer sheets were submitted in the last minutes of the Major League Baseball trade deadline at 3:00 pm yesterday.  The forms read that the Texas Rangers would trade starting pitcher, Yu Darvish, to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for three minor league prospects. The top piece coming to Arlington is Willie Calhoun. In AAA Oklahoma City, Calhoun .298 with 23 home runs and 67 RBI in 99 games. The Rangers also received advanced a shortstop, Brandon Davis, and full a pitcher, AJ Alexy. Darvish went 6-9 with a 4.01 ERA and 148 strikeouts after 22 starts this season.
The Rangers dropped their series opener to the Seattle Mariners last night, 6-4. Rougned Odor blasted his 23rd home run of the season in the loss. Texas falls to 50-55 on the season, 5.5 games out of a Wildcard spot in the American League. The Rangers and Mariners are back at it tonight at Globe Life Park in Arlington. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:05.
It was a rest day for the Dallas Cowboys veterans in yesterday’s practice. Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Sean Lee, Darren McFadden, Tyrone Crawford, Orlando Scandrick and Tyron Smith were all given the day off, along with linebacker Jaylon Smith. The Cowboys are back on the practice field this afternoon at 12:30 in their final tune up before playing in the annual Hall of Fame Game against the Cardinals on Thursday.
Area high school football teams are six days away from start two-a-day practices. Teams will have a week and a half’s worth of practice days before their first scrimmages on August 18. The regular season begins with week one on August 31 and September 1.
