Dean Foods Files For Bankruptcy

North Texas-based Dean Foods, America’s largest milk processor, filed for bankruptcy Tuesday as the average consumption of milk dropped from 24 gallons per person per year in 1996 to 17 gallons now. Despite the announcement, the company plans to continue operating its facilities nationwide. The company said it may sell itself to the marketing co-op Dairy Farmers of America, which is owned by thousands of farmers.
