Dean Minor Relays in Paris Plus Cowboys Sign Running Back in Sports

Paris – Tomorrow will kick off one of the biggest high school sporting events of the year when Paris High School hosts the annual Deon Minor Relay’s. Participating teams include Paris, North Lamar, Sulphur Springs, Mt. Pleasant, Greenville, Denison, Gilmer, Commerce, Emory Rains and Idabel. Field events begin at 3:30 and running at 5pm.

In high school baseball and softball the Prairiland Lady Patriot’s pick up a 1-0 win over DeKalb in 19 innings. The North Lamar Pantherette’s suffered an upset yesterday at the hands of Pittsburg 8-3. And the Paris Wildcat baseball team improves to 11-3 after a 9-1 win over Gilmer.

MP – Track and Field continues with pre-district meets. Tomorrow evening the Mt. Pleasant Tigers and Lady Tigers will travel to Paris High School to participate in the Deon Minor Relays. Other participating teams include Paris, North Lamar, Sulphur Springs, Greenville, Denison, Gilmer, Commerce, Emory Rains and Idabel. Field events begin at 3:30 and running at 5pm.

In high school baseball and softball The Mt. Pleasant Tigers improve to 2-1 in district 15-5A with a 4-1 win over Hallsville. Chandler Currey picked up the win in a complete game effort. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers suffer their first district loss 8-0 at the hands of Hallsville. The Lady Tigers are now 3-1 in district play.

SS – Track and Field continues with pre-district meets. Tomorrow evening the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats will travel to Paris High School to participate in the Deon Minor Relays. Other participating teams include Paris, North Lamar, Sulphur Springs, Greenville, Denison, Gilmer, Commerce, Emory Rains and Idabel. Field events begin at 3:30 and running at 5pm.

In high school softball the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats defeat Greenville 7-4. With the win Sulphur Springs softball improves to 4-1 in district 15-5A, tied for 2nd place with Mt. Pleasant. Meanwhile, the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers defeat Chapel Hill 7-4 improving to 14-11 overall on the season and 3-2 in district play.

Last night in the NHL the Dallas Stars dismantle the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2. Vernon Fiddler scored both of his goals on the evening in the first period, one being while the Stars were shorthanded. With the win the Stars have 97 points and become the first team in the western conference to clinch a playoff spot. The Stars are back on the ice tomorrow at Arizona. Puck drop is at 9pm.

The NCAA tournament continues tomorrow with the sweet 16 round. A pair of one seeds and two seeds will be in action starting with 2 seed Villanova vs 3 Miami at 6:10. 2 seed Oklahoma plays against 3 seed Texas A&M at 6:37. Top seed Kansas plays 5 seed Maryland at 8:40 and 1 seed Oregon plays 4 seed Duke at 9:07.

And in NFL Free Agency the Dallas Cowboys make several moves, including signing running back Alfred Morris to a 2-year contract worth 3 and a half million dollars. The Cowboys are also expected to bring aboard restricted free agent defensive end Benson Mayowa and defensive back Patrick Robinson.
