Delta County Man Faces Multiple Charges After Alleged Assault

Lewis Anthony Williams

Press Release Delta County Sheriff

Delta County Sheriff’s Office received a frantic call from a woman’s relative. The caller reported that her niece was in contact with her and said that a man was assaulting her at home and that the suspect had struck her with a gun.

Deputies responded to the location of the assault in the 700 block of southeast 7th street in Cooper. They attempted to contact the occupants, but no one approached the front door. However, deputies could hear a man talking inside and tried several times to establish contact with him.

Through continued efforts to make contact, the man, identified as 33-year-old Cooper resident Louis Anthony Williams began a dialogue with deputies. After successful negotiations, Mr. Williams allowed the victim to exit the residence. They safely moved away from the house, and negotiations continued to get Mr. Williams out. Finally, Mr. Williams left the place alone, and they detained him.

After securing the scene, deputies discovered that the victim had two cuts, a contusion on her forehead, and evidence of an assault on her face. As they took Mr. Williams into custody, he became combative and resisted arrest. Deputies got him to the patrol vehicle, but he got loose and ran from them while handcuffed. Deputies again brought him into custody as he attempted to re-enter the home but continued to be combative. Finally, while taking him back to the patrol vehicle to be transported to the jail, he assaulted a deputy by repeatedly kicking him.

During the subsequent investigation, the victim revealed that the suspect had shot at her twice and struck her with his vehicle earlier in the day to get her to go back to the residence with him.

They arraigned Mr. Williams on a First-Degree Felony Aggravated Kidnapping with a Deadly Weapon charge with a $100,000 bond, two counts of First-Degree Felony Family Violence Aggravated assault with weapon charges with $100,000 each, a Second-Degree Felony Assault on a Peace Officer with a $50,000 bond and a Misdemeanor A Escape from Custody with a $20,000 bond. Mr. Williams is in the Delta County Jail awaiting trial.
