Downtown Paris Tree Planting

Atmos

Atmos Energy is hosting a ceremony to recognize the planting of trees in downtown Paris. It will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (Apr 20) north of the courthouse. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Thanks so much.

PARIS, Texas (April 15, 2016)- Atmos Energy, Texas 811, and The Texas Trees Foundation are planting 50 trees in Downtown, Paris. The ceremony to commemorate this event is Wednesday (Apr 20) at 2:00 p.m. on the north side of the Lamar County Courthouse located at 119 N. Main St.

“While this initiative happens throughout Atmos Energy’s Mid-Tex Division, the “Call 811 Before You Dig” trees project in Paris is of significance,” stated Jeanette Moser, Manager of Public Affairs for Atmos Energy’s Paris District. “We have the opportunity to be a part of the ‘Smile! Plant a Tree!’ campaign, in the context of the Great Fire of 1916 Centennial.”

Atmos Energy’s “fueling cleaner and greener” communities initiative kicked off Aug. 11, 2015, on National 811 Day as a reminder to call 811 before digging. Wednesday’s event is a continuation of Atmos Energy’s commitment to plant 811 trees by National Safe Digging Month in April 2016.

By calling 811 in advance, property owners and contractors are connected to their state’s one-call center, which notifies all appropriate utilities about the excavation. Professional locators mark all underground utility lines at the digging site with flags or spray paint.

“We are thrilled to partner with Texas 811 and the Texas Trees Foundation to create a long-lasting positive impact on the communities we serve,” John Paris, president of Mid-Tex division, Atmos Energy said. “Natural gas is a clean and efficient fuel source and planting trees ensures a cleaner and greener Texas.”

“We estimate over 5,000 individuals will directly benefit from this partnership,” Matt Grubisich with Texas Trees Foundation said. “This is an excellent way to show Texas the importance of calling 811 before digging while providing trees for our communities.
