East Texas Attorney Faces Felony Charges

Rusk County has arrested the City Attorney for Henderson and Tatum on two first-degree felony charges. Joe Edward Shumate, 72, was charged with misapplication of fiduciary property or property of a financial institution greater than or equal to $300,000 and first-degree felony theft of property greater than or equal to $300,000. The alleged victim was an elderly female client. He is out of jail on bond.
