East Texas Auto Theft Task Force Reports Scam

The East Texas Auto Theft Task Force is warning area residents about the increase in sales of stolen vehicles. The suspects are predominately targeting the Hispanic community and posting vehicles online in Spanish and Spanish Web sites. They have the buyer travel to the Houston or Dallas area to complete the cash sale. The task force also had these suggestions:

1) Only agree to purchase the vehicle at a local police station parking lot.

2) Take photo of the seller with a phone.

3) Check and verify (VIN) Vehicle Identification Number before the sale.
