East Texas Nurse Convicted Of Exploiting Elderly Man

An East Texas nurse has been convicted in Smith County of exploiting an elderly person and was sentenced to six years in prison. Prosecutors say fifty-six-year-old Karen Madrid of Tyler had met the victim, a person suffering from dementia at a hospital, and later arranged to be his private caregiver. Adult Protective Services became involved when neighbors reported the victim had no food in his house and his car was gone. Further investigation showed that Madrid stole about $25,000 from the victim.
